Chickens: Appenzeller Spitzhauben
Appenzeller chickens (specifically the Spitzhauben variety) are a rare, highly energetic Swiss breed famous for their striking forward-sweeping crests and V-shaped combs. Alert, curious, and highly independent. Because they are quite active and agile, they thrive when allowed to free-range or climb. Adapted to the alpine mountains of Switzerland, they are remarkably cold-hardy, but also adapt well to hot, humid climates.
Small but mighty, these hens produce 150–200 white eggs annually.
Health Status and Traceability
All our birds come from registered, vaccinated parent flocks which are regularly tested for salmonella stereotypes with public heath significance in accordance with regulation (EC) No. 2160/2003
As chicks they are double vaccinated for Mareks disease MKR+HVR, plus Nobilis IB Ma5 for protection against Infectious Bronchitis.
